Bone to Pick

So in all the stress of the past week, I never mentioned that Curlin is making his Saratoga debut today in the GI Woodward Stakes: the 10th race on the Spa card, 1⅛ miles on the dirt at 126 lbs weight-for-age impost.

The Woodward was where Jess Jackson first suggested Curlin meet Big Brown and, guess what? the Derby winner isn't here. But that's not why I'm scowling. I'm scowling because, after all the big televised racing of last weekend, not one station outside TVG/HRTV is covering the event. And that irritates me.

He's the reigning Horse of the Year; well on the road to a repeat. He's dominated the dirt handicaps in the US and Dubai. The NYRA made a website for him in anticipation of this race! He's a superstar of the game-- a King amid the Sport of Kings-- and I won't be able to watch the race until it's posted on CalRacing?!

This is starting to look like a catch phrase, but: What the F?

How are we to garner new fans when the standout performers aren't given their due? Yes, ABC and ESPN/2 are covering College football, which is to be expected. And CBS has the US Open. But NBC? The "Home of the Triple Crown"? It's the never ending excitement of Local programming.

Hey, fan panel: Any way we can get this issue addressed to the big wigs? Seriously.

Hey Jen... well, we'll try naturally but please go to Self Appointed Fan Committee and submit your rant/ideas! We email all the submissions monthly to whoever can (presumably) do something about it.

The more rants/ideas the better... thx!

While not available nationwide, the Woodward was in fact shown on MSG, available in most areas of New York State. Better than nothing...
